The quietness is what distinguishes it from the other tolerance zone venues. While the bars down the block blast reggaeton, El Farol operates at conversational volume. The men who drink here seem to prefer it that way. Conversations are low-key, the TV or radio provides background noise, and the pace is slow.
Prices match the neighborhood baseline. At 3,000-4,000 COP per drink, this is subsistence-level pricing. Nobody is making money on margins here; the model depends on volume from regulars who come back daily.
A foreigner walking into Bar El Farol would create an uncomfortable situation for everyone involved.
