Alchemist is what happens when someone opens a proper cocktail bar on a street known for loud clubs and cheap beer. The result is a venue that feels like it belongs in a different neighborhood, and that's precisely the point.
The entrance is deliberately hard to find. A small sign, an unmarked door, and you're inside a dim room that smells like citrus and aged spirits. The back bar is stocked with bottles you won't see in most Bangkok venues, and the bartenders actually know what to do with them.
The menu changes seasonally, with original cocktails that use local Thai ingredients alongside imported spirits. A recent visit featured a lemongrass and gin creation that was genuinely excellent, and a whisky-based drink with palm sugar that balanced sweet and smoky perfectly. Classics are also available and executed with care.
Prices reflect the quality. Cocktails at 320 to 420 THB are expensive for Soi 11 but reasonable for a craft cocktail bar in any global city. The cost per drink is high, but you're paying for ingredients, skill, and an atmosphere that can't be replicated at the volume-focused clubs.
