Gecko's Bar
Gecko's Bar occupies a mid-range position on Walking Street, both literally and in terms of pricing. The bar sits in a central location on the pedestrianized strip, next to Lollipop and within easy reach of the larger go-go bars. The interior is a single open room with a stage, a bar counter, and booth seating for about 40 people. The dancer roster runs 15 to 20 women on busy nights, performing in pairs or small groups. Gecko's is known for live dance performances that are more choreographed than the basic pole rotations at smaller bars, though still far short of Club Atlantis productions. The bar has been on Walking Street for years and maintains a steady following among visitors who find the bigger venues too overwhelming. Pricing sits in the middle of the strip: beer at 80 PHP, lady drinks at 280 PHP, and bar fines at 2,800 to 3,500 PHP. The staff are experienced and the billing is transparent.

Gecko's is a good bar to start a Walking Street evening because its mid-range pricing sets a useful baseline for comparison. The seats nearest the stage offer the best view of the dance performances. Ask about the Wednesday drink specials.
Full Review
Gecko's Bar is the Goldilocks option on Walking Street. It is not as massive as Club Atlantis, not as tiny as Lollipop, and priced somewhere between the budget bars and the premium venues. For many visitors, that middle ground is exactly right.
The interior is well-maintained, with booth seating that has been recently reupholstered and a stage that gets proper cleaning between sets. The dance performances are a cut above the basic pole rotations you see at smaller bars. On the night I visited, a group of four dancers performed a synchronized routine to a K-pop track that showed genuine rehearsal.
Beer at 80 PHP and lady drinks at 280 PHP are competitive for Walking Street. The bar fine of 2,800 to 3,500 PHP sits below the Dollhouse Group venues but above the budget bars on the eastern end of Fields Avenue. The mamasan was professional and straightforward about all pricing.
The crowd was a mix of nationalities: Koreans, Australians, a few British guys, and a table of Americans. The volume level allowed conversation, which is not always the case on Walking Street. Gecko's does not try to be the biggest or the flashiest. It just delivers a competent, mid-range go-go bar experience in a good location. Sometimes that is all you need.
