Beer Hall SCBD

SCBD, Jakarta

Beer Hall SCBD is a casual after-work venue on Jalan Senopati, the bar and restaurant street that anchors SCBD's informal social scene outside the high-end hotels. The venue operates as a ground-floor draft-beer-focused bar with a kitchen serving Indonesian and Western bar food, and hosts low-key live acoustic or cover-band music on weekend evenings. The register is distinctly casual compared to the rooftop bars and large clubs of SCBD, and the draw for the regulars is the combination of cold draft at prices below the hotel rooftops, functional air conditioning, and proximity to a significant share of SCBD's office towers. The crowd mixes young professionals coming off late office hours, expat groups, and some creative-industry visitors spilling over from Kemang.

Insider Tip

The draft list rotates; ask the bartender what's new on tap before ordering out of habit. After-work peak is 18:30-21:00 on weekdays, when Jalan Senopati fills with office workers; before or after that window is less crowded. The kitchen's satay ayam and the chicken wings are the menu picks; skip the burgers.

Full Review

Beer Hall SCBD is useful precisely because it isn't trying to be a destination. The venue exists to serve the weekday after-work needs of the SCBD office demographic, and it does that competently. The room is large enough to absorb the 18:30-to-21:00 office rush without feeling crammed, the draft list is broader than most Jakarta bars with ten-plus taps rotating between local breweries and standard international names, and the price point sits well below what you'd pay for equivalent drinks at the rooftop bars a few hundred meters away.

I came in around 19:00 on a Wednesday and the room was about 80 percent full, with three-quarters of the crowd clearly office workers unwinding. Two large groups occupied communal tables near the bar; a scattering of couples and pairs sat at two-tops along the side wall. Service was fast for how full the room was. The kitchen was sending out platters quickly, which is the other reason the weekday after-work crowd stays: food arrives while the first round of drinks is still cold.

The draft beer selection rotated between Bintang, Bali Hai, Stark, Prost (a local Bintang-produced craft line), and a few international taps including Asahi and Hoegaarden on the visit I made. The pours were properly cold, the glasses were chilled, and the tap lines were clean enough that nothing tasted off. Cocktails are present on the menu but are not the venue's strength; stick with beer.

On weekend evenings the venue runs live acoustic sets from roughly 20:00, with bands playing rock covers and Indonesian standards. Volume increases but stays under the level where conversation stops working. By 23:00 on a Friday, some of the crowd is pre-loading for clubs elsewhere in SCBD, and the venue functions partly as a warm-up stop.

Compared to the Senopati strip's other bars, Beer Hall SCBD competes on price and kitchen rather than on distinctive concept. That works for the after-work segment. Travelers looking for a design-driven bar experience should go to one of the cocktail-focused rooms on the same street.

The Neighborhood

Beer Hall SCBD is on Jalan Senopati in the Kebayoran Baru portion of the SCBD zone. Jalan Senopati is the primary casual bar-and-restaurant strip for SCBD office workers and runs parallel to the more formal Jalan Sudirman corridor. The street includes a dozen bars, several restaurants, and foot traffic that peaks at weekday after-work hours.

Getting There

Jakarta MRT to Senayan or Bendungan Hilir station, then a ten-minute walk or a short GoCar ride (15000-25000 IDR) to Jalan Senopati. Direct GoCar or Grab from Sudirman, Thamrin, or Menteng runs 30000-70000 IDR. Parking on Senopati is limited; self-drive guests often use the Pacific Place garage and walk over.
