The decor includes string lights, fake palm trees, and enough shells and netting to stock a seaside souvenir shop. It's unabashedly fun and doesn't pretend to be anything more.

Walking down the stairs into Kaihin Bar, you leave Ikebukuro's office-building reality behind and enter a parallel universe where it's always summer. Sand crunches underfoot, string lights cast a warm glow, and a bartender in a Hawaiian shirt is mixing something in a coconut shell. It shouldn't work, but it does.
The room is rectangular, with the bar along one wall and tables scattered across the sandy floor. A raised platform at the back serves as a DJ area on weekends and additional seating on quieter nights. Surfboards, fishing nets, and Hawaiian-style artwork cover every vertical surface. A small aquarium in the corner completes the seaside illusion.
I ordered a mango shochu sour, which arrived in a tiki mug with a paper umbrella. It was well-made: the mango was fresh, the shochu was balanced, and the presentation was fun. A second drink, a classic mojito, was equally solid. The bartenders clearly know their craft despite the playful setting.
On the Friday evening I visited, the room filled steadily from 21:00. By 23:00, about 35 people packed the space, some dancing on the raised platform where a DJ was playing reggae remixes. The crowd was young, energetic, and visibly happy. Groups of friends took turns posing with the surfboards for photos. A birthday party in one corner was doing shots from coconut shells.
Two cocktails came to 1,900 JPY, no cover. The value was excellent for a fun, unique bar experience. It's not the place for a quiet drink or serious conversation, but as a party venue with personality, Kaihin delivers.
